The Ministry of Sports and Youth launched the Qatar National Youth Policy, “With its youth transcend,” which the Ministry worked on for two years in partnership with 66 authorities concerned with youth affairs in the country, including ministries, governmental and semi-governmental institutions, in addition to international bodies.

The new policy was launched during a ceremony held in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, Minister of Sports and Youth and a number of officials in the country, at the headquarters of “Walk on Earth”, to be the victorious beginning of the journey of the dreams of the youth of the State of Qatar.

The Qatar National Youth Policy emerges in response to Qatar Vision 2030, and is based on the Ministry’s vision of creating “active and responsible youth with a sense of patriotism, and a community practicing sports” and participating in Qatar’s sustainable development.

The new policy seeks to enhance the capabilities of Qatari youth and integrate them into the development process through the State’s commitment to support youth issues and needs and fulfill their aspirations by meeting their aspirations and developing their personal and social abilities and skills by defining steps to work with youth with a comprehensive vision with clear features.

In a speech on the occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Sports and Youth said that since the founding of this country, the personality of Qatari youth has mixed with the reality of the great challenges that characterized every era in Qatar’s history, and youth were the beating heart in the life of this dear country.

His Excellency praised the achievements of the Qatari youth throughout the ages, including the young knights of Qatar, who wrote bright pages in our beloved country, in addition to the struggling divers who endured the harshness of the sea to be the resource and tributary on which our economy was based.

The Minister of Sports and Youth affirmed that Qatari youth have proven themselves at the forefront in facing the challenges and exceptional circumstances that our beloved country went through in all fields, as victory was their companion in all their victorious march.

His Excellency said: “The secret that made the youth of Qatar excel throughout the history of our country is their strong belief in God Almighty, and then their superiority in performance effectiveness, assuming responsibility, and their noble patriotic sense.. These unique qualities are still evident in the youth of Qatar, and effective to this day.”

For her part, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia bint Ahmed Al-Thani described, through a recorded speech, the inauguration of the “Qatar National Youth Policy” project as a historic event and an important achievement for the State of Qatar.

In particular, HE the Ambassador praised the efforts of the Ministry of Sports and Youth in the State of Qatar for the diligent work that resulted in a special policy dealing with the youth category in the State of Qatar, and this policy is an important step forward towards developing the Qatar National Youth Policy 2030.

She explained that the adoption of the draft Qatar National Youth Policy is an expression of the state’s commitment to youth issues and their involvement in the decision-making process and the promotion of the participation of future generations in accordance with the evidentiary standards of the United Nations.

HE the Ambassador referred to the State of Qatar’s adoption, in partnership with Colombia, Finland and the United Nations, to work to hold the first international conference on youth participation in peace paths, which was held in March 2019, followed by the second international conference held in Doha in 2022, which resulted in important outputs, which were the guide for government officials and the launch of Guidelines to support the activation of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda at the national level and the Five-Year Strategic Action Plan, the first of its kind on promoting youth-inclusive peace pathways, based on recommendations from the global policy paper “Here we are an integrated approach to youth-inclusive peace processes.”

Her Excellency explained the role of the State of Qatar in the field of education through its initiatives for hundreds of millions of the world’s population in various continents, recognizing that education, training, and the inclusion of young people in jobs and economic opportunities are the best ways to get out of poverty, establish societies enjoying justice and peace, unleash potentials and create appropriate conditions to improve the quality of life in marginalized countries.

On the other hand, Mrs. Maha Al-Rumaihi, Head of the Policy Preparation Team at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, said that Qatari youth represent a driver and an engine that pushed the wheel of the new policy forward, and added: “From their enthusiasm, we gained strength and the ability to continue working, as the participatory approach was our approach in all steps to prepare the policy, as the youth were present from the beginning in the preparation and planning for the preparation of the policy.

She expressed her confidence in the youth’s ability to lead the action program to implement the policy to success, along with the parties involved in implementing the new policy.

She indicated that there were challenges that accompanied work on the new policy, as its preparation coincided with the Corona pandemic and its constraints, in addition to a severe lack of data and information, as well as the difficulty of communicating with young people within the framework of applying a large number of precautionary measures that prevent the establishment of any youth gathering, and the loss of contact with experts who have been coordinated with, and other challenges that have been overcome.

The Cabinet had issued a decision approving the Qatar National Youth Policy, which will achieve great gains towards a promising future for young people.

It is noteworthy that the Qatar National Youth Policy had the participation of thousands of Qatari youth in all parts of the country and from all walks of life, who contributed opinion and advice, whether in voting to choose the policy axes with the participation of about 1,500 young men and women, and then participating in questionnaires on the seven policy axes, to which nearly 3,000 young men and women responded, as well as the participation of a thousand young men and women in focus groups, in which young people expressed their opinions on policy axes and issues, and young people also participated in reviewing the draft policy to verify that its results are compatible with their views and aspirations towards it.
