Qatar’s shooting team delivered another outstanding Asian achievement after securing two gold medals in the men’s skeet competition, in both the individual and team events, at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games currently being held in Japan and running until October 4.

The first gold came in the team skeet event, with Qatar represented by shooters Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, and Ali Ishaq. The team topped the standings with a score of 353 targets, ahead of Kuwait, which finished second with 348 targets and claimed the silver medal, while India placed third with 346 targets to take the bronze.

Qatar’s shooting team continued its impressive performance in the skeet competition, as Rashid Saleh Al Athba secured Qatar’s second gold medal by winning the individual title following a strong performance that saw him finish ahead of leading shooters from China, India, and Kuwait.

Al Athba recorded 34 targets in the final round, setting a new Asian record and securing the gold medal. China’s Liu Jian Li Ge finished second with 33 targets to take silver, while Chinese Taipei’s Li Mang Younan placed third with 29 targets to win the bronze medal.

This achievement represents another milestone for Qatari shooting and reflects the strong presence of Qatar’s athletes at continental competitions, after the country’s shooters secured both the individual and team skeet gold medals in one of the standout events of the Asian Games.

Dr. Mishal Al Nasser, President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, expressed his delight at the achievement of Qatar’s shooters in a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), stressing that winning the two skeet gold medals represents an important milestone for shooting and Qatari sport.

Al Nasser said: “We congratulate Qatar’s shooters on this achievement after winning the two gold medals in the men’s skeet individual and team events. We dedicate this achievement to the wise leadership of the State of Qatar and to His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.”

He added: “Qatari youth are always present when they receive support, and this is the least we can offer our country, which has never fallen short with anyone. Today’s achievement confirms that Qatari shooting is moving in the right direction, and that the support and attention given to our athletes are producing achievements that raise Qatar’s flag at international competitions.”

The President of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation affirmed that this achievement will serve as an incentive to continue working and exerting greater efforts in the upcoming challenges.
