The curtain falls today on the first edition of the “Squash for All” Championship, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth. Held over 18 days at the courts of the Westin Doha Hotel & Spa, the championship featured intense and competitive group-stage matches. Participants from various age groups delivered impressive performances, and the strong turnout from squash enthusiasts added a high level of excitement and enthusiasm to the event.

The success of this inaugural edition reinforces its status as a valuable addition to the Federation’s annual calendar, marking a strong start that paves the way for future editions. The Level 1 final match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM today, preceded by the Level 2 final, and the third-place playoff for Level 1. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony, where the top three winners will be honored with trophies, medals, and appreciation vouchers recognizing outstanding performance and sportsmanship.

Tournament Format and Highlights

The early stages of the championship followed a round-robin format, with players competing across two levels:

  • Level 1: Consisted of two groups with a total of 8 players.

  • Level 2: Comprised four groups with 16 players.

This format gave players the opportunity to play multiple matches and added a strong competitive edge to the championship. The event is being viewed as a genuine start to the integration of squash into the annual Sports for All calendar.

Organizers’ Remarks

Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated:

“This championship is being held for the first time as part of our Sports for All calendar, and it has achieved its goal through wide participation and a vibrant atmosphere that lasted for over two weeks. This reflects the value of the Federation’s mission — to spread the culture of sport and physical activity, and to enhance community participation in sporting events.”

He added that the first edition made a meaningful contribution by attracting youth seeking competition and challenge, a platform that aligns with their ambitions and encourages them to continue practicing sports. Al-Dosari emphasized that the tournament is a qualitative addition to the Sports for All activities in 2025, demonstrating the Federation’s commitment to diversifying sports and recreational events throughout the year.

These activities are hosted across a range of venues, including sports halls, fields, youth centers, schools, public parks, and even shopping malls, which are increasingly taking part in hosting community fitness programs such as the walking and step challenge initiatives.
