The Summer Sports for All Muay Thai program, dedicated to self-defense training, has entered its fifth week across several gyms in sports clubs and youth centers. The training sessions attract children to a unique sporting experience that captures the interest of families and their children, who enthusiastically engage with the training in an exciting atmosphere. Muay Thai represents an important part of the “Summer Sports for All 2025” program, organized by the Qatar Federation for Sports for All under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The program runs from June 29th until August 7th, with the participation and collaboration of 28 entities from various ministries, institutions, authorities, and schools.
The summer program aims to involve all segments of society in physical activity, with a special focus on children and school students. It is part of a vision to spread the culture of community sports, particularly during the summer period. The program activities are designed for children aged 7 to 14 years, lasting six weeks, five days a week from Sunday to Thursday. The plan focuses on learning martial arts and raising awareness about their positive impact on character building, physical fitness, and mental development.
The training sessions see wide participation from children and notable attendance of many parents who encourage their children undergoing intensive training in multiple locations at sports clubs and youth centers across various areas of the country. These sessions are supervised by a team of specialized trainers in modern martial arts, aiming to develop the physical capabilities of participants, boost their self-confidence, and instill principles of discipline and commitment.
Abdullah Al Dosari, the Executive Director of the Qatar Federation for Sports for All, praised the growing attendance of Muay Thai training sessions since the program’s launch. He affirmed that the increasing number of participants and the positive engagement of families reflect the success of the summer program in achieving its educational and sports goals. He noted that the presence of families and their follow-up on their children’s training helps create a distinctive family atmosphere inside the gyms and sports centers. This, in turn, enhances children’s commitment to physical activities, strengthens social bonds, and makes sports an activity that unites family members.
The Executive Director also emphasized the federation’s keenness to select activities that do not only teach physical skills but also unleash children’s energies and develop their abilities to meet their ambitions and their families’ aspirations. He pointed out that Muay Thai is one of the core pillars of the “Summer Sports for All” calendar. The progress in participants’ skill levels reflects the substantial efforts made and serves as a motivation to continue developing future editions of the program and to expand its reach to new groups across different parts of the country.
Currently, Muay Thai training is held at ten locations including Al Wakrah, Al Shamal, Al Ahli, Al Sadd, and Qatar Sports Clubs, alongside youth and cultural centers such as Barzan Youth Center, Al Dakhira, Simsima, Doha Youth, and Eid Cultural Center. Moreover, additional entities have requested to host training sessions, indicating the growing popularity of Muay Thai.
