Brouq Nature Reserve hosted the distinctive and eye-catching launch of the first edition of the “Brouq Trail” Race, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth. The event took place amid exceptional winter weather, where the spirit of challenge blended with adventure and enjoyment of nature. The race saw strong participation, with around 800 male and female runners from various nationalities and age groups, including men, women, and children.
The competitions were held on Friday afternoon, starting at 2:00 p.m. and continuing until 6:00 p.m., marking the first-ever trail race to be staged at Brouq Nature Reserve and the main sporting event within the activities of the “Ras Brouq Season,” organized by Visit Qatar in cooperation with Ajur Sport for sports events.
Following the conclusion of the race, winners of the top three positions in each category were awarded colored medals, in addition to honoring all participants who completed the race, in encouragement of continued physical activity and appreciation of their participation. The race featured multiple distances suitable for different fitness levels and age groups, including 15 km, 10 km, and 5 km races for participants aged 17 years and above, as well as a dedicated 1 km race for children aged 3 to 6, ensuring inclusive participation in a safe and motivating environment.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated that the “Brouq Trail” race presents a distinctive model of community sports events held in natural settings, combining enjoyment, excitement, and family participation. Parents took part alongside their children in a sporting experience within one of Qatar’s most beautiful nature reserves. He added that the strong turnout, particularly among children and women, reflects the success in achieving community goals and reinforcing the concept of “sport as a way of life.”
Al-Dosari emphasized the federation’s commitment to designing the race along diverse routes featuring unique geological formations and scenic landscapes that cater to those seeking a different sporting and recreational experience. He described the “Brouq Trail” as one of the most prominent trail races, carrying a distinctive heritage and traditional character, and held in a region of significant historical and environmental value to Qatari society. He noted that this unique edition comes as part of the ongoing collaboration with Ajur Sport, and renewed the invitation to the public to participate in upcoming challenges and races within the Sports for All calendar for the new year.
The “Brouq Trail” race also featured cultural performances, environmental initiatives, and a variety of interactive activities, enhancing the event’s value as a comprehensive sports and cultural celebration that introduced participants to Qatar’s natural and environmental heritage. The accompanying activities included various sports and entertainment offerings, such as stationary cycling, interactive children’s games, short races, and a dedicated warm-up area, along with free access for participants to the “Ras Brouq” events.
