Yesterday afternoon, the draw for the 12th edition of the Al-Furjan Football Tournament, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, was held. The tournament will rotate between various Al-Furjan playgrounds located across the country. The draw took place during a press conference at the Lusail Sports Hall, attended by Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Qatar Sports for All Federation, as well as representatives of some of the teams participating in the new edition of the tournament, which will be held in Al-Thumama and kick off next week.
The draw, which included 16 teams, resulted in four groups. The first group includes Haloul, Al-Zaa’in, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ma’ida. The second group features Khalifa City, Ain Khaled, Onaiza, and Umm Salal. In the third group are Al-Wakrah, Al-Zaa’in 2, Al-Sakhama, and Al-Thumama. The fourth group consists of Leabaib, Al-Nasr, Al-Maamoura, and Al-Owainah.
The tournament will follow a group stage format, with each match consisting of two halves, each lasting 15 minutes with a 5-minute break in between. The top two teams from each group will advance to the second stage, which will be played as a knockout round. Matches will feature 7 players per team, with a requirement that three of them must be Qatari. Teams are allowed to register any Qatari player before the match to encourage greater participation, in accordance with the tournament rules.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Qatar Sports for All Federation, emphasized that the Al-Furjan Tournament offers a valuable opportunity for Qatari youth who are not registered with the Qatar Football Association to showcase their talents and pursue their passion for football. It also provides a platform for new faces to emerge and allows residents to participate. Al-Dosari highlighted the federation’s aim to shed light on the Al-Furjan playgrounds and make the most of their presence in residential areas. He mentioned that the tournament will last for a full month to allow ample rest periods between matches.
