Within the framework of the partnership between the Qatar Chess Federation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Qatar Chess Federation declared the launch of the Chess in Schools project. Many public and private schools participated, and it continued until September 18 in the meeting room of the chess training center.

The course topics included the positive side of playing chess, methods to learn the game, the rules, and preparing internal matches, as well as training and qualifying teachers to manage school chess teams and organizing annual matches between different school teams.

Mr. Mohammed Al Mudahka, the President of the Qatar Chess Federation, confirmed that the Chess in Schools project falls within the Federation’s goals aimed at horizontal expansion of the game of chess and spreading its culture in schools.

 He said: “This course is one of the basic pillars for developing the game of chess in schools, and creating a broad base of teachers capable of training, managing and arbitrating the various game activities, intending to increase the base of practitioners from different range of people participating in local matches and increasing the number of players registered and classified by the International Federation of the game.”

He explained that using chess as an educational tool for school students aims to increase thinking skills and mathematical abilities and helps absorb and understand mathematical operations.

At the end of his announcements, the President of the Qatar Chess Federation thanked all players in the session for their support in making the goals of the executive program to include chess in the school curricula a success.

It is noteworthy that the Qatar Chess Federation pays great attention to the project to develop the game of chess within schools, to search for, refine and develop sports talent, and to provide the base of the game with a new generation that will be able to register its attendance shortly.
