His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Minister of Sports and Youth, crowned the winners of the eighth and ninth races during the horse racing event organized by the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club on Saturday at the Al Uqda grass racetrack. The event featured nine races in total.

Key Races and Winners:

Ninth Race – Founder’s Trophy

The Founder’s Trophy, held in honor of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani (may his soul rest in peace), was for locally bred purebred Arabian horses aged three years and above, covering 1,400 meters.

  • 1st Place: Al Saij Al Sakab, owned by Khalid Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al-Attiyah, trained by Jassim Hamad Al-Attiyah, and ridden by jockey Alberto Sanna.
  • 2nd Place: Al Mirage, owned by Al Shaqab Racing, trained by Jean de Mieulle, and ridden by Christophe Soumillon.
  • 3rd Place: AJS Saaeq, owned by Al Jeryan Stud, trained by Mohammed Hamad Khalifa Al-Attiyah, and ridden by Stefan Mazur.

Eighth Race – National Day Trophy

The National Day Trophy, dedicated to purebred Arabian horses (Group 2) aged four years and above, covered a distance of 2,100 meters.

  • 1st Place: Jabalah, owned by Wathnan Racing, trained by Alban de Mieulle, and ridden by jockey James Doyle.
  • 2nd Place: Mushrif, owned by Khalifa bin Shaheen bin Khalifa Al Kuwari, trained by Julian Smart, and ridden by Gavin Ryan.
  • 3rd Place: Nabukko Al Maury, owned by Mansour bin Khalil bin Mansour Al Shahwani, trained by Hamad Al Jehani, and ridden by Stefan Mazur.

Additional Races and Highlights:

  • Fourth Race – Falcon Trophy (Thoroughbred): Taxiwala, owned and trained by Engineer Osama Omar Al Dafaa, won the 1,200m race for thoroughbreds aged three years and above.
  • Fifth Race – Lebsayyer Cup: Dark Trooper, owned by Wathnan Racing, emerged victorious in this 1,400m race for thoroughbreds aged three years and above.
  • Sixth Race – Halul Island Cup (Local Thoroughbreds): Equinox, owned by Wathnan Racing, claimed the 2,100m race.
  • Seventh Race – Safliya Cup (Group 3 Thoroughbreds): Haunted Dream, also owned by Wathnan Racing, triumphed in the 2,300m competition.

Other Notable Performances:

Three preliminary races were held without trophies:

  • First Race: Ehtiyaj, a purebred Arabian filly owned by Al Shaqab Racing, secured first place in the 1,400m maiden race.
  • Second Race: Hemyan, a purebred Arabian filly owned by Al Shaqab Racing, won the 2,100m handicap race.
  • Third Race: Shaqurdi, owned by Shuraidah bin Nasser bin Shuraidah Al Kaabi, triumphed in the 1,200m conditional race.

The event concluded with officials presenting the awards to winners, celebrating an exciting day of competition.
