Under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Qatar Sports for All Federation has announced an ambitious plan for the summer, filled with sports, youth, and recreational activities, under the name “Summer Sports for All Program.” The program consists of four different segments, featuring more than one sport, and will start on the 23rd of this month, continuing until the 3rd of August, spanning six weeks. Activities will take place across sports clubs, youth centers, and public parks. This program is part of the Federation’s annual calendar, aiming to fill free time during the summer holiday, invest in the time of the youth, and encourage them to continue physical activity. During a press conference, it was announced that registration is now open for participation in the four programs through the Federation’s dedicated application.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Sports for All Federation, mentioned during the press conference that the summer activity includes the “365 Days of Activity” program for men at Aspire Park, Al Gharafa Park, and Al Rayyan, and for women at Al Luqta Park and the Women’s Sports Committee. This program caters to all segments of society, from ages 7 to 65, daily and throughout the week. The sports exercises start at 5 PM and continue until 6 PM. The program aims to raise awareness about the importance of proper exercise, providing sports tips to educate participants on the correct ways to exercise according to their age group and choosing the appropriate exercises. As part of its focus on women’s sports, the program also offers a free karate lesson for women every Saturday at Al Luqta Park from 5 PM to 6 PM, along with organizing a monthly women’s sports gathering at the Education City Stadium over four months.
Muay Thai Program and Lusail Hall Program
The second program in the summer activities focuses on self-defense training through Muay Thai exercises for males aged 6 to 18. This program will last for six weeks at clubs including Al Arabi, Al Sailiya, Al Gharafa, Al Wakrah, and Al Rayyan, as well as youth centers in Simaisma, Al Dhaayen, and Al Dhakira, from Sunday to Thursday, for one hour. The program will conclude with a joint championship for participants at Lusail Sports Hall, attended by parents and families.
Al-Dosari explained that the third program, named “Lusail Hall,” is a summer fitness program for all at Lusail Sports Hall, starting on June 24 and lasting for six weeks. Every two weeks, a new group of children will join the camp, held on Sundays and Thursdays each week. This is the first version of the Sports for All programs that includes a camp gathering, aimed at children aged 6 to 10, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The Federation will provide beverages and meals for all participants, while parents will be responsible for transporting their children to the activity venues. The camp will include a variety of sports, awareness, and educational programs. Summer activities include several sports such as badminton, billiards, table football, and running exercises.
Expanding Participation
Al-Dosari emphasized the Federation’s commitment to expanding the circle of sports participation and attracting as many people as possible from all age groups. Specific locations have been designated for each age group to practice sports separately and comfortably. He stated, “We expect significant participation from children in the activities scheduled at Lusail Sports Hall, potentially exceeding 450 participants over the four periods throughout the summer.” He also anticipated an increase in the number of participants in this year’s summer program, noting that there are more venues for the activities compared to last year, totaling about 13 locations. He said, “We are keen to include new sports practitioners in the events. In swimming, for example, we expect the number of participants to exceed 200 boys and girls at three locations, and 30-35 participants in Muay Thai at each of the seven designated sites. He added that the actual participation of women at Al Luqta Park and the Women’s Sports Committee reaches up to 65 participants daily.
