Al-Wakrah Beach hosted a distinguished community sports event through a new round of the Al-Wakrah Challenge Race, organized by the Qatar “Sports for All” Federation under the guidance of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in cooperation with Trails Sports Events Company. The race saw wide participation, with more than 450 male and female runners from different nationalities and age groups. The participants included men, women, youth, children, and seniors. The race took place in an atmosphere of competition and high sportsmanship.

A medal and awards ceremony for the top winners in the various categories was held at the finish line. The Al-Wakrah Challenge represents the fourth stage in the “Duroob Qatar Running Series,” which includes five desert races held across different regions of the country, including Fuwairit, Sailain, Al-Zubarah, Al-Wakrah, and Al-Khor. This series aims to encourage community members to practice sports in open-air settings and to explore the country’s geographical and tourist landmarks.

The competitions, which started at 4:00 PM, lasted approximately two hours, concluding at 6:00 PM. The race was held on a designated dirt track with an out-and-back format, varying only in distance depending on the participants’ category. The event saw strong family attendance and running enthusiasts, with a high spirit of competition and challenge. Race distances were divided as follows: 10 km for participants aged 17 and above, 5 km for the same age group, 3 km for youth aged 7 to 16, and an 800-meter race for children aged 3 to 8, also in an out-and-back format. Water stations and an ambulance were available along the course to ensure the safety of all participants.

Following the award ceremony, Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar “Sports for All” Federation, expressed his happiness with the race’s great success, praising the wide participation and excellent organization. He stated that the Al-Wakrah Challenge is an essential part of the Duroob Qatar desert race series, which provides a unique sporting experience and contributes to promoting community sports culture. He added that the 2025 desert race series builds on previous successful editions organized by the federation over the past years, which saw broad participation from competitors of all ages, offering memorable sporting and family moments and setting new records.

Al-Dosari explained that the “Sports for All” Federation works to expand participation across different community groups by diversifying community sports events, including races that allow family participation and open opportunities for all age groups. He emphasized the importance of participating in upcoming races in the “Sports for All” calendar, including the Desert Wolf Race next month and the Tramarthon from East to West, scheduled for mid-December.
