In partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Friends of the Environment Center concluded the first week of its Summer Sustainability 2026 program, held under the theme “Together Towards a Sustainable Future.”The program attracted strong participation and engagement through a series of educational and hands-on activities designed to promote environmental awareness and instill sustainability values among young participants.

The first week’s program featured environmental-themed recreational competitions, awareness workshops on oral and dental health, and sessions highlighting the importance of personal hygiene during the summer. Participants also took part in a field visit to the Quality and Safety Department at the laboratories of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), where they learned about advanced technologies used in materials testing and quality assurance for infrastructure projects. In addition, they visited the Water Research Center under the Fisheries Department at the Ministry of Municipality, gaining insight into the importance of protecting water and marine resources and the ongoing efforts to preserve them.

Commenting on the program, Dr. Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, Executive Director of the Friends of the Environment Center, said the strong response to the first week’s activities reflects the center’s commitment to delivering high-quality programmes that help develop a generation with a strong understanding of environmental issues and sustainability. He explained that the program combines scientific education with practical and recreational activities to encourage girls to actively engage with environmental topics and adopt positive, sustainable behaviors.

Dr. Al Hajri added that the center continues to advance its mission of promoting environmental awareness through effective partnerships with national institutions, enriching participants’ knowledge in the fields of environment, health, and sustainability. He noted that the coming weeks will feature additional innovative activities aligned with the program’s objectives, helping to prepare a generation that is more environmentally conscious and socially responsible.

The first week concluded with positive feedback from both parents and participants, who praised the quality and diversity of the programme and the interactive learning environment it provided, which helped develop new skills while strengthening environmental responsibility among the participants.
