The Qatar Sports for All Federation, a partner of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, celebrated the champions of the eighth edition of the long-distance race, Qatar Ultramarathon, which spans 90 km from east to west, in cooperation with the Qatar Runners Team. This was marked by a champions’ awards ceremony held on Saturday evening, the day following the marathon race, which kicked off at dawn on Friday from Sheraton Park on Doha Corniche and concluded at the finish line at Dukhan Beach.
A major celebration was held at Al-Sadafa Hall in Lusail Sports Hall, attended by Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Dosari, Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth and President of the Qatar Sports for All Federation; Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Federation; the male and female winners across the various ultramarathon categories; the athletes’ families and friends; and representatives of the media. During the ceremony, partners of success from 21 entities were honored, and prizes were distributed to the individual and team champions. The race ran from Doha Corniche to Dukhan Beach, passing through five main checkpoints, with the participation of 1,800 male and female runners of different nationalities and age groups.
Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Dosari crowned the winners in the various race categories. Abdulaziz Ahnida won first place in the men’s individual under-40 category, completing the race in a record time of 6:30:43 hours. In the same category for women, Maria Kolvakova claimed first place with a time of 7:22:32 hours. In the men’s individual over-40 category, Murat Kaya secured first place with a time of 7:12:03 hours, while Riza Dela Rosa won first place in the women’s category with a time of 8:58:02 hours. In the team competitions, which were equally intense, Team “Lekhwiya 7” topped the men’s teams category, finishing the race in a record time of 5:10:15 hours, while Team Hona claimed first place in the women’s teams category with a time of 6:58:54 hours.
Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Dosari expressed his pride in the success of the eighth edition of the Qatar Ultramarathon, affirming that it has become a prominent fixture on the national sports events calendar due to the spirit of challenge and determination it embodies. He noted that the race reflects the development of community sports in Qatar, as demonstrated by crowning the champions after completing one of the longest and most demanding races in the region, covering 90 kilometers. He praised the large participation from various nationalities and age groups, emphasizing that this confirms the status the Qatar Ultramarathon has achieved over its eight editions. He also extended his thanks and appreciation to the partners of success, considering them a fundamental part of the race’s continued development, and highlighting that their participation supports the mission of the Sports for All Federation and strengthens its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of sports and physical activity within the community.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated that the eighth edition of the Qatar Ultramarathon witnessed strong competition and a high level of organization, reflecting the extensive efforts invested in preparing and organizing the event, which continues to evolve year after year. He noted that this was evident in the large turnout and significant participation, reaching 1,800 male and female runners, confirming the success of the eighth edition both in terms of organization and competition, as well as the overall atmosphere along the 90-kilometer route. He described the ultramarathon as a unique sporting experience that combines challenge with enjoyment of the scenic route and the moderate climate at this time of year. He expressed his hope for even greater participation in the next edition and more favorable weather conditions, announcing that the upcoming edition will feature new developments to be revealed later. This comes as part of the Qatar Sports for All Federation’s ongoing efforts, with the support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, to expand participation, strengthen the concept of community sports, and promote a culture of sports participation by organizing high-quality events that reinforce the “Sports for All” concept and support the national vision of improving quality of life and enhancing community health.
