In partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Qatar Sports for All Federation, in cooperation with the youth department at Al Gharafa Sports Club and the “Autism Families Platform,” organized a special swimming championship for individuals with autism.
The competition was held at the Tareedh Family Sports Center with the aim of empowering and integrating people with disabilities into society by providing a safe and encouraging sporting environment that combines competition with meaningful recreational activities. The event contributed to enhancing participants’ self-confidence and developing their physical and social skills.
The championship, which started at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and lasted for one hour, witnessed notable attendance from parents who were keen to support and encourage their children throughout the competitions. Their presence helped create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positive interaction. The program also included a number of accompanying sports and recreational activities that contributed to increasing engagement and inclusion.
Mr. Abdullah Al Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, emphasized that the swimming championship for individuals with autism is one of the federation’s key initiatives, which it is committed to organizing continuously due to its importance in supporting this group and enhancing their community participation through sports.
He stated that the event witnessed strong participation and positive engagement, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of sports activities designed for people with disabilities and highlighting the essential role families play in encouraging their children to practice sports and participate in community activities.
Al Dosari added that the active presence of parents was one of the main factors behind the event’s success, as family support plays an important role in strengthening participants’ confidence. He emphasized that the partnership between families and sports institutions is a fundamental pillar in achieving social inclusion goals and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.
He explained that swimming is one of the most beneficial sports for individuals with autism, as it contributes positively to developing their abilities, improving focus and relaxation, strengthening self-confidence, and providing opportunities for communication and social interaction within a safe environment suited to the participants’ abilities.
Al Dosari noted that sports activities are available for all ages and categories, reflecting the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s commitment to including people with disabilities in sports and community activities, supporting this group, and providing programs that match their abilities and help develop their potential.
The Qatar Sports for All Federation continues to provide a wide range of sports and recreational activities as part of its commitment to supporting all segments of society and strengthening their participation across different fields. Special attention is given to people with disabilities and special needs through tailored programs that respond to their needs and requirements.
These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at reaching all members of society through an annual calendar of activities, which includes more than 850 events in 2026, with the goal of expanding sports participation and promoting an active lifestyle across the community.
