Running enthusiasts from various nationalities are gearing up to take on one of the most challenging desert races. Preparations are in full swing at the Qatar Sports For All Federation, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in collaboration with the “Run Qatari” team, to launch the eighth edition of the Qatar East-to-West Ultramarathon. This international race begins at Doha Corniche near the Sheraton Hotel and ends at Dukhan Beach, covering a thrilling and exciting 90 km, attracting wide participation across all ages and demographics.

The previous edition attracted over 1,500 runners representing 240 teams, including local champions from the “Samla” races, as well as runners from various nationalities. This year’s edition is expected to see even broader participation from men and women, children, and seniors, with registration still open and witnessing growing interest from amateurs and professional athletes alike.

Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports For All Federation and Chairman of the Race Organizing Committee, stated that the race was scheduled for December 5 to take advantage of favorable weather conditions that will allow participants to enjoy the pleasant and moderate climate. He noted that the race is an excellent opportunity for all athletes and running enthusiasts, offering a marathon full of challenges, making this an exceptional edition, especially since it is open to amateurs aged 16 and above, not just professional runners.

He explained that registration and detailed information about the stations and participation methods are still open for three months through the “Sports for All” app, offering a broad opportunity for interested participants from all segments and age groups, either as individuals or as teams of up to six runners.

The Executive Director emphasized that this race is part of the Federation’s annual agenda of major races and marathons. It has evolved beyond being just a running race into a sports festival that tells stories of perseverance and determination over 90 kilometers of diverse terrain and continuous competition along the race route. It serves as a chance for athletes to test their physical and mental abilities and offers amateurs a taste of major championship atmospheres, even acting as hands-on training for participation in global marathons and challenges.

As the countdown to the start whistle continues, all eyes turn to the upcoming December, when hundreds of runners of all nationalities and ages will line up at the starting line for a race that promises epic scenes of willpower and determination. The mild winter atmosphere is set to make the eighth edition a truly memorable sporting event.

The growing participation each year is considered clear evidence of the engagement and interaction that the Qatar Sports For All Federation’s programs and tournaments receive. Through its annual agenda, the Federation offers the community more than 750 events and activities this year, covering a wide range of sports.
