Under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Qatari Scientific Club and the Public Works Authority “Ashghal” launched the third edition of the “Future Engineer” program. This program targets high school students and runs from July 14 to 24.
The program aims to introduce students to various engineering disciplines and their importance and advantages through workshops in different engineering fields and field visits to “Ashghal” laboratories and departments, as well as the laboratories and sections of the Qatari Scientific Club. Students will learn about the departments of the Public Works Authority, their tasks, nature of work, adopted safety and security rules, the quality of treated water, tests for construction materials, and the basics and mechanisms for monitoring sewer networks. They will also explore engineering specialties, design models of any project, and their details.
During the second week of the program, participants will receive training at the Qatari Scientific Club to understand the concept of innovation and sustainable development goals. They will participate in workshops on idea generation, how to turn their ideas into prototypes, and practically verify their hypotheses.
On this occasion, Engineer Abdulrahman Saleh Khamees, Deputy Executive Director of the Scientific Club, emphasized the club’s commitment to making the “Future Engineer 3” program comprehensive, achieving its goal of training and preparing future youth and familiarizing them with various engineering disciplines, encouraging them to pursue these essential specialties needed by the nation to become distinguished engineers in their fields.
He explained that the program is distinguished by its engineering nature, from selecting projects to the engineering approach in turning a prototype into a final executable model, appreciating the Public Works Authority’s support for the Future Engineer program, reflecting its complete commitment to social responsibility towards the nation’s youth. He also pointed out that the program results from fruitful and constructive cooperation between “Ashghal” and the Scientific Club.
Meanwhile, Mr. Abdullah Al-Saad, Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Public Works Authority, stated that the Future Engineer 3 program aims to develop students’ scientific and practical skills, believing in the importance of preparing future Qatari cadres and competencies and encouraging them to think creatively in various fields. It also provides an opportunity to closely learn about different engineering disciplines and work environments.
He added that students will participate in a hackathon competition to find technological solutions to various problems associated with infrastructure projects by turning ideas and innovations into tangible reality. The competition’s outputs will involve applying the solutions developed by the students. He expressed his happiness with the ongoing collaboration with the Scientific Club to enrich the summer vacation in a way that benefits students in their practical lives, aligning with the state’s future aspirations.
