The “Erthna” (Our Heritage) Center, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, will announce today the launch of the 9th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and Sustainability Island, Qatar’s first recycling station.

Qatar Sustainability Week is considered the largest annual community campaign in the country to promote environmental sustainability. The week-long event features hundreds of activities organized by various entities from both the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations across the country.

Environmental advocates see Qatar Sustainability Week as playing a leading role in achieving the country’s sustainability goals by fostering cooperation between different government and private sectors and supporting the nation’s efforts to raise environmental awareness among the public. The event encourages individuals to take effective steps toward preserving the environment.

This year’s edition is packed with numerous activities and workshops, including the launch of the 4th edition of the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change, which will be held on October 1 and 2. This event aims to enhance collective climate action in Qatar and shape a shared vision for addressing climate change.

Qatar Sustainability Week is widely supported each year by strategic partners, who organize and sponsor hundreds of activities and events, believing in the importance of these activities in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.

Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of the Erthna Center, confirmed in a press statement the Center’s commitment to continuing efforts to promote sustainability, noting the significant impact of local initiatives on environmental protection, particularly Qatar Sustainability Week, which includes many diverse environmental activities across the country.

He said, “Through Qatar Sustainability Week 2024, we aim to make a tangible positive impact and strengthen the community culture of environmental conservation as a shared responsibility for everyone.”

He added, “Last year’s edition recorded the highest participation in the campaign’s history, with more than 470 events organized and around 200,000 participants. We hope the upcoming edition will continue this success and bring about positive change that benefits the community and future generations.”
