The Qatar Sports for All Federation, under the supervision of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has launched a national campaign titled “10,000 Steps Challenge in Malls.” This ambitious initiative aims to encourage the public to practice walking inside shopping malls. The campaign was launched last Wednesday and will run daily until the end of August.
The challenge is taking place across seven major malls in Qatar: Villaggio, Ezdan Mall (Al Gharafa), Tawar Mall, Lagoona Mall, Doha Festival City, Qatar Mall, and Hyatt Plaza.
The activities are held daily inside participating malls for two months, with each mall hosting the challenge for a specific period. The first round started at Villaggio Mall, followed by other locations, with the goal of promoting physical activity in comfortable, air-conditioned spaces during the hot summer months.
The initiative was well received by mall visitors, who enthusiastically participated in the challenge. Several participants expressed their appreciation for the initiative, which promotes walking in indoor spaces as an alternative to open areas during high summer temperatures.
The challenge also took place at Qatar Mall on Thursday and saw strong participation from the public. Additional rounds are planned, including upcoming events at Mall of Qatar and Ezdan Mall, which have proven to be popular locations for the campaign.
Participation is tracked through the “Sport for All” mobile app, which features a built-in step counter to log participants’ progress during the mall walks.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, emphasized that the “10,000 Steps Challenge in Malls” campaign is a national initiative aimed at raising awareness of the importance of daily physical activity and encouraging the public to adopt healthy lifestyles. He added that malls offer a suitable and safe environment for walking, particularly in the summer, when outdoor conditions can be challenging.
He noted that the daily goal of 10,000 steps is an ideal benchmark for maintaining physical fitness and overall health. The challenge is uniquely organized at each mall, with special events, accompanying activities, and prize distributions that vary by location, enhancing the experience for participants and drawing more members of the community to engage and benefit from the initiative.
The campaign continues to be held daily across malls in different regions of the country to ensure wide accessibility and inclusiveness. It also supports broader national objectives related to promoting sports culture and encouraging consistent physical activity throughout the year.
Participants are encouraged to document and share their experience on social media, fostering a positive and healthy image of physical activity among the wider community.
It is also worth noting that participants’ steps are logged while walking inside the malls through the app. Those who complete 10,000 steps will receive exclusive rewards, while those who go beyond and complete additional 10,000-step milestones will increase their chances of winning valuable weekly and monthly prizes designed to motivate continued participation in the challenge and promote long-term commitment to physical activity.
