The Qatar Sports for All Federation, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, organized a sports and recreational day for people with special needs at Lusail Sports Hall, in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event witnessed the participation of more than 100 boys and girls representing 18 centers for the care of people with special needs, and was attended by Mr. Issa Al-Harami, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth; Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation; and Ms. Eman Al-Naimi, Director of the Services Centers Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The event aimed to empower and integrate persons with disabilities into society through the organization of diverse activities.
The activities, which began at 8:00a.m. and continued until 12:00pm, featured a wide variety of programs tailored to suit the abilities and capacities of the participants. Children enjoyed a range of sports and recreational activities in an atmosphere full of interaction and vitality. These activities included ball games, hurdle jumping, basketball, tennis, “tele-match” competitions, simple fitness exercises, movement games, self-defense training (Muay Thai), in addition to group recreational games that brought joy to the children.
Mr. Issa Al-Harami, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, emphasized the importance of diversifying sports activities that serve all segments of society, noting that sports are available to all ages and groups and are not limited to a specific category. He affirmed that the Ministry of Sports and Youth is always keen to involve persons with disabilities in various sports activities and to support this group, which deserves greater attention and focus, as well as the provision of activities appropriate to their abilities.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, highlighted that the initiative is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with the participation of 18 centers for the care of people with special needs, as part of an ongoing partnership aimed at organizing numerous events and activities that fall within the federation’s strategy to promote the concept of community sports. Through this approach, the federation seeks to involve all segments of society in various sports activities, enhance the role of sports in serving the community, and emphasize the importance of opening opportunities for everyone to practice sports. He stressed that the federation pays special attention to sports for persons with disabilities, and is keen to strengthen cooperation with various entities and institutions in the country by organizing diverse sports and recreational events that reinforce the importance of sports as an essential part of a daily lifestyle, through efforts to spread a culture of sports participation among all segments of society.
Earlier this month, the Qatar Sports for All Federation also organized a sports and recreational day for members of the Shafallah Center, coinciding with the Gulf Disability Week, in support of this group, to raise community awareness of their issues, and to work toward their care and inclusion. Aspire Zone Foundation, the Qatar Stars League, and the Qatar Paralympic Federation also participated in organizing the “Paralympic Games Inspiration Day” at the Women’s Sports Hall in Aspire Zone.
