The delegation of the Ministry of Sports and Youth participating in the activities of the Youth Forum of the Economic and Social Council in New York held several important meetings aimed at exchanging experiences and enriching participation in the forum.

The delegation members held a preparatory meeting with Her Excellency Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations. They also met with UNICEF and the Generation Amazing initiative to benefit from available experiences and refine skills in economic and social fields.

The delegation was led by Mr. Ahmed Al Ansari, along with Mr. Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, Mr. Mohammed Al Jaber, Ms. Hind Al Kuwari, Ms. Aisha Al Rashdi, and Ms. Fatima Al Sulaiti.

The Youth Forum, which took place from April 16 to 18 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, serves as a platform for economic dialogue between youth, decision-makers, and experts from various political and non-political backgrounds. It is an annual initiative under the auspices of the Council Presidency.

During sub-sessions of the forum discussing “Youth Perspectives on Regional Development – Challenges, Priorities, and Actions for Sustainable Development and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” Qatar’s pioneering experience in establishing the Qatar National Youth Policy was showcased. This highlighted the country’s comprehensive national policy covering all aspects of youth life.

Additionally, the youth’s experiences as graduates of programs organized by the Ministry were reviewed, which contribute to building the capacities of Qatari youth and empowering them with essential skills to represent Qatar at local and international forums.

In another session of the Asia-Pacific Forum, Qatar’s ambitious climate actions over the past two decades were highlighted, with participation from government entities, international organizations, civil society, and individual contributions to achieving these aspirations. This stems from Qatar’s National Vision 2030’s fourth pillar on “Environmental Development.” The third National Development Strategy aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 through expanding the use of advanced carbon monitoring, capture, storage technologies, and transitioning to renewable energy sources.

The youth centers affiliated with the Ministry of Sports and Youth work on educating Qatari youth about their roles and responsibilities towards themselves and their surrounding environment, enhancing youth capabilities, promoting positive youth practices, supporting youth attendance at regional and international conferences and forums on climate action, appreciating and transferring these experiences to youth, and promoting the integration of persons with disabilities in these programs and activities.
