As part of the activities of the Summer Camp 2025, the Youth Body at Qatar Sports Club organized an awareness lecture titled “Prayer is the Pillar of Religion” at the summer activity venue, in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and under the patronage of the Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, within the slogan “Our Summer for Our Youth.”

Mr. Mohamed Abdul Rahim Al-Haydoos, Head of the Youth Body, emphasized that this event reflects the club’s keenness to strengthen religious values among youth and children through purposeful awareness programs that help instill Islamic principles in a simple and impactful manner.

The lecture was delivered by Sheikh Mohamed Al-Sharqawi from the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance. He discussed the great status of prayer in Islam, considering it the second pillar of Islam after the declaration of faith (Shahada).

Sheikh Al-Sharqawi pointed out that prayer is an obligatory duty established by the texts of the Quran, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the Ummah. He affirmed that it is mandatory for every adult Muslim who is sane and mature, while children are encouraged to commit to prayer from the age of seven and are disciplinarily guided, without harshness, if they neglect it by the age of ten, as motivation to maintain the practice.

He recited several Quranic verses confirming the obligation of prayer, including:
“And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer” (Quran 98:5)
and
“So establish prayer and give zakah” (Quran 2:43).

He also quoted the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) hadith:
“Islam is built on five: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, establishing prayer…”
