The National Sport Day Committee has announced the criteria and conditions that must be adhered to by all government and private entities when organizing activities for the National Sport Day 2026. This comes as part of efforts to provide suitable conditions for the success of all events, ensure the achievement of the intended objectives of National Sport Day, and enable everyone to engage in physical activity smoothly and safely.

The committee emphasized that all ministries, other government bodies, public authorities and institutions, as well as all entities operating in the country—including the private sector—must submit their programs and plans related to National Sport Day activities before the 15th of the current month, and complete the official National Sport Day application form via the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s website: www.msy.gov.qa.

Abdullah Al-Dosari, a Member of the National Sport Day Committee, explained that the committee receives activity proposals from all entities intending to organize events, in order to evaluate them before mid-month, and publish them promptly to introduce them to the public at an early stage. He stressed the importance of distributing activities across northern and southern areas of the country as well as central Doha, to allow the largest possible number of people to participate in physical activities in public squares and parks.

Al-Dosari highlighted that National Sport Day plays a pivotal role in promoting public health and embedding a culture of physical activity within society. He affirmed that the Ministry of Sports and Youth continues its supportive efforts to increase sports participation and ensure the sustainability of physical activity by launching community initiatives and programs, expanding open sports events, supporting partnerships with government and private entities, and enhancing the use of sports facilities and venues to ensure accessibility for all segments of society and encourage adopting sport as a daily lifestyle.

The National Sport Day Committee also outlined the key criteria that must be observed when selecting activities to be organized on National Sport Day. Foremost among these is focusing on physical and movement-based activities, while avoiding all forms of ceremonial or show-based celebrations. The committee stressed the importance of awareness activities aimed at highlighting the value of sport as a healthy daily behavior, reinforcing the concept that “Sport is Life.”It also emphasized that proposed sports activities must be appropriate for participants’ age groups and health conditions, in terms of the nature of activities, physical intensity, and duration.

The committee further reiterated the obligation of ministries, government bodies, public institutions, and all entities operating in the country—including the private sector—to comply with these criteria and conditions, which aim to achieve the noble objectives outlined in Emiri Decision No. (80) of 2011 concerning National Sport Day.

The conditions to be followed during National Sport Day activities include avoiding the construction of tents or temporary sports facilities, ensuring compliance with security and safety requirements, and making optimal use of existing sports facilities, parks, and public spaces. The guidelines also stress the importance of offering healthy food options, avoiding fast food, refraining from distributing free meals or gifts to the public, and steering clear of organizing entertainment, musical, or show-based activities. Instead, the focus should remain on sports and physical activities, as such non-sporting events may lead participants to watch rather than actively engage in physical exercise.
