The Qatar Sports for All Federation, an affiliate of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund and the National Human Rights Committee, is organizing the 2026 Workers’ Football Cup. The tournament will kick off in conjunction with the National Sports Day on 10 February, and will continue until the closing match scheduled 1 May, which coincides with International Workers’ Day. Matches will be held at the Al Arabi Sports Club pitches.

A press conference for the championship was held yesterday, Sunday afternoon, at the Plaza Inn Hotel, attended by Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, and Ms. Kholoud bint Saif Al-Kaabi, Executive Director of the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, along with representatives of participating and supporting community teams and entities. During the event, the draw for the tournament was conducted, which features 16 teams representing various expatriate communities, as well as teams from companies and institutions.

The draw resulted in the teams being divided into four groups, each comprising four teams. Group One includes: Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, Somalia, Nepal, and South Africa. Group Two consists of: Mowasalat, Morocco, India, and Bangladesh. Group Three includes: Milaha, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mauritania. Group Four features: Sri Lanka, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari expressed his happiness with the continuation of the fruitful cooperation with the Workers’ Support and Insurance Fund, which began last year, noting that this partnership is being translated into tangible action through the organization of the 2026 Workers’ Football Cup, which will run for three consecutive months. The tournament will also be accompanied by a range of sports and recreational activities aimed at supporting workers and enhancing their engagement in community sports.

Al-Dosari explained that the championship highlights the significant efforts made by the state to support the workers’ segment, which represents a large and vital portion of society and has the right to practice sports through dedicated activities that consider their needs and aspirations. This, he said, contributes to spreading a culture of sports participation and encouraging community engagement. He added that the Workers’ Cup holds special importance as it coincides with the State Sports Day, which carries this year’s slogan “I Chose Sport,” reflecting the alignment of the tournament’s objectives with the national vision of promoting an active lifestyle and enhancing sports participation across all segments of society.

He also emphasized that the federation’s role falls within the comprehensive plan of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, aimed at reaching the largest possible number of people practicing sports and diversifying community sports activities. The federation is keen to organize programs targeting various segments of society and to provide real opportunities for sports participation through diverse initiatives, with special attention given to workers to encourage their active involvement. He described the championship as a distinctive and high-quality initiative that will serve as a launching point toward a better future for this segment, within the framework of the federation’s social responsibility.
