The opening round of the 13th Al Furjan Football Championship, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, kicked off at the Al Naeja East Furjan fields, which are hosting the tournament for the first time. Eight matches were held over Sunday and Monday, filled with effort and enthusiasm, witnessing a total of 38 goals scored.

The matches ended with Al Nasr defeating Madinat Khalifa 4-2, while Shabab Umm Qarn and Al Aziziya drew 1-1. In the third match, Al Wakrah triumphed with a 3-0 win over Umm Qarn, and the day concluded with Shabab Al Nasr beating Luwaynah 3-0.

The tournament’s opening day had four matches: Al Wakrah started strong with a 6-0 victory over Shabab Al Nasr, followed by Luwaynah’s win against Al Khisa. Madinat Khalifa dominated Shabab Umm Qarn 3-0, and Al Nasr clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Haloul.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Sports for All Federation, described the launch of the Al Furjan Championship as outstanding. He praised the technical level shown in the eight matches of the first round over two days, confirming the championship will be held regularly as part of the federation’s calendar of tournaments and activities to maintain continuous sports engagement. The tournament opens doors for amateur players—both Qataris and residents—not registered with the Football Federation. It serves as a platform to discover young football talents.

Al-Dosari added that the championship aims to highlight the importance of these Furjan fields, which are located within residential neighborhoods, by hosting tournaments that show increasing development from one edition to the next.

The Al Furjan Championship is played in a group-stage format, with a single round-robin. Two teams from each group qualify for the semifinals, which are knockout matches. Matches are played with seven players per team, requiring at least two Qatari players on the field each game. Teams may register any Qatari player before matches to increase participation, according to tournament rules.

The current edition features ten teams divided into two groups: Group One includes Al Wakrah, Shabab Al Nasr, Luwaynah, Al Khisa, and Umm Qarn; Group Two includes Madinat Khalifa, Shabab Umm Qarn, Al Aziziya, Haloul, and Al Nasr.

The Al Furjan fields, spread throughout residential neighborhoods, provide an open sports destination for all family members to practice sports daily—whether through football competitions or by using the spaces for walking, physical activities, and other sports.
