Doha’s streets have been transformed with the colors and branding of the Fourth Gulf Games – Doha 2026, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere that reflects the significance of the major regional sporting event. Qatar is hosting the Games through 22 May, with wide participation from athletes representing all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Tournament flags and welcoming banners have been displayed along major roads, key intersections, public spaces, and areas surrounding sports venues. The organizing committee has placed particular emphasis on showcasing the event’s visual identity in a manner that reflects the prestige and importance of the Gulf Games within the regional sporting landscape.

The competition venues have also been decorated with tournament branding and the flags of participating nations, accompanied by extensive organizational preparations designed to provide an exceptional experience for athletes, officials, and spectators while highlighting Qatar’s expertise in hosting major international sporting events.

Among the venues prepared for the Games are Aspire Dome, Hamad Aquatic Centre, Duhail Sports Hall, Al Gharafa Sports Club, Lusail Shooting Range, and the facilities of the Qatar Billiards, Snooker and Bowling Federation, all of which have been given a distinctive new look reflecting the spirit of the championship and Gulf unity.

The visual identity displayed throughout Doha carries messages of welcome, solidarity, and cooperation among Gulf nations, enhancing excitement and public engagement with competitions across 17 sporting disciplines.

Eight Swimmers to Represent Team Qatar

Qatar’s national swimming team enters the Games with ambitious goals as the swimming competitions take place from 12–15 May at the Hamad Aquatic Centre.

The team will be represented by eight swimmers: Ali Tamer, Mohammed Mahmoud, Saad Al Din, Emil Fawzy, Hamza Shaalan, Abdullah Al Ghamri, Aziz Ismail, and Tamim Al Humaida. The squad has completed an intensive preparation period aimed at achieving peak physical and technical readiness before the competition.

Expectations are high following the success of Qatari swimming in recent Gulf and regional events, supported by continued investment in aquatic sports and long-term programs focused on developing young talent.

The coaching staff is confident that the swimmers can deliver strong performances against the region’s top competitors, with the home advantage expected to provide additional motivation in the pursuit of podium finishes.

Qatar Volleyball Team Continues Preparations Under Argentine Coach Camilo Soto

Qatar’s national volleyball team is continuing its intensive preparations for the Games, aiming to build on the impressive achievements it recorded in the previous edition.

Under the leadership of Argentine head coach Camilo Soto, the team is following a comprehensive preparation program focused on improving physical fitness, enhancing technical performance, strengthening team chemistry, and refining tactical systems to ensure the best possible level of readiness.

As part of its preparations, the national team played two friendly matches against Al Rayyan Club and secured victories in both encounters.

Qatar will begin its campaign against the United Arab Emirates at 6:30 p.m. on 16 May at the Aspire Women’s Sports Hall, which will host all volleyball matches during the Games. The team will then face Oman on 17 May before taking on Bahrain on 19 May.

The volleyball competition will be played in a single round-robin format, with the team accumulating the highest number of points crowned champion. As a result, every match will play a decisive role in determining the medal standings.

Ten Venues Ready to Host the Gulf Games

Qatar has completed preparations to host the largest edition of the Gulf Games in the event’s history, bringing together athletes from all six GCC nations in a celebration of sport, cooperation, and regional friendship.

The Games feature competitions across 17 sports, including handball, table tennis, athletics, padel, fencing, boxing, taekwondo, karate, swimming, billiards, snooker, 3×3 basketball, shooting, archery, volleyball, equestrian events, and bowling.

To accommodate this extensive program, the organizing committee has designated ten advanced sporting venues prepared according to the highest international technical and organizational standards.

Aspire Dome will host padel, karate, fencing, and boxing competitions, while the Aspire Women’s Sports Hall will stage volleyball matches. The Hamad Aquatic Centre will welcome swimming events, and Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium will host athletics competitions. The Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation Hall will stage billiards and snooker events, while Al Gharafa Sports Club will host a range of competitions.

Lusail Shooting Range has been prepared for shooting and archery events using internationally approved technology and facilities. Equestrian competitions will be held at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, while the Qatar Bowling Federation Hall will host bowling events. Duhail Sports Hall will serve as the venue for handball competitions.

With its world-class infrastructure, extensive organizational planning, and strong regional participation, Doha 2026 is set to deliver a memorable edition of the Gulf Games while further reinforcing Qatar’s position as a leading destination for major international sporting events.
