Aspire Dome hosted the second edition of the Ramadan Women’s Race Series, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth and in cooperation with Education City. The race featured wide participation, reflecting the growing presence of women in community sports activities in Qatar.
The event was held on the indoor Olympic track as part of the federation’s efforts to increase women’s participation in sports and provide a safe and suitable environment for sports. It also continued a series of women-only races initially scheduled during Ramadan but postponed due to an exceptional suspension period.
The women’s and girls’ race took place from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with more than 247 participants competing across different timed categories ranging from 5 to 30 minutes in a well-organized and safe environment. Participants from various nationalities took part, with 210 women competing in the 15- and 30-minute races, 50 girls in the 10-minute category, and 22 young girls in the 5-minute category, all in a highly competitive and energetic atmosphere.
The race also had a strong family-oriented atmosphere, as mothers accompanied their daughters and participated in the challenge across different distances, reinforcing the goals of Sports for All in promoting physical activity as a lifestyle within society. The event included warm-up exercises and a variety of light sports activities supervised by specialized female coaches, ensuring a comprehensive sporting experience for all participants.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated that the women’s race represents a key milestone in the series of female sports events organized by the federation in cooperation with Qatar Foundation. He emphasized that the initiative aims to provide an integrated sports environment that meets women’s aspirations and enhances their participation in sports and community activities.
He expressed his satisfaction with the strong turnout and competitive spirit among participants, noting that Qatari women made up 64% of the total participants—an encouraging indicator of their growing interest in sports, especially through events that ensure privacy and a suitable environment.
Al-Dosari added that this high level of participation highlights the importance of continuing such events, which promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage women and girls of all ages to adopt physical activity as part of their daily routine. He noted that the federation is committed to continuously diversifying women-focused sports activities and expanding opportunities for participation in community and sporting events.
He concluded by stressing the importance of engaging with these programs and allocating dedicated space for women’s sports activities within the federation’s annual calendar, in order to achieve its long-term goals of promoting sports for all.
