The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in collaboration with the Qatar Scientific Club and under the Ministry of Sports and Youth, launched the fourth edition of the “Engineer of the Future” program, which targets high school students to enhance their awareness of engineering fields and encourage them to explore this vital sector — a cornerstone of national development.
The program, which runs until July 23, includes a rich engineering curriculum delivered through specialized workshops, field visits to Ashghal departments, and hands-on technical training at the Qatar Scientific Club’s labs and departments. Participants receive both theoretical and practical exposure during the first week, including daily interactive experiences covering core engineering functions such as infrastructure management, project planning, safety and quality control, building systems, road networks, sanitation systems, and technology applications in operations and maintenance.
Throughout the second week, participants take part in practical workshops and activities focused on solving real-world engineering challenges in Qatar. The sessions equip students with basic engineering concepts, teamwork skills, creative thinking, project management, and the use of digital tools such as 3D modeling software to build their project prototypes.
The program includes activities like team building, engineering project planning, model design, and workshops on advanced construction methods. Participants are guided through the full cycle of engineering projects—from idea development to model implementation—building a strong foundation in engineering skills.
Ms. Fatima Al-Kuwari, Head of External Relations at Ashghal, emphasized that the initiative aligns with Ashghal’s community partnership efforts. She highlighted the program’s role in empowering students and preparing them for future careers in engineering by offering them early, hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment.
She added that “Engineer of the Future” aims to build a generation of skilled youth, capable of meeting the demands of the job market, while also fostering creativity and innovation.
Mr. Ghanem Al-Kaabi, Head of Training and Development at Ashghal, stated that the program reflects the authority’s commitment to supporting high school students and helping them make informed choices about engineering disciplines that match the evolving needs of Qatar’s labor market.
From the Qatar Scientific Club, Ms. Khawla Al-Maadeed, Head of Public Relations and Communications, expressed her pride in the club’s role in qualifying students to understand engineering responsibilities, emphasizing that engineers shape the world—from designing skyscrapers and networks to preserving architectural heritage.
The program concludes on July 23 with a final ceremony where participants showcase their completed project models. A judging panel will evaluate the submissions, and the event will include certificates, awards, and shields for the top-performing teams in the engineering challenge.
