As part of the 2025 season activities organized by the Youth Department at Qatar Sports Club, and under the patronage of the Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and within the framework of the “Our Summer for Our Youth” initiative, Mr. Mohammed Abdulrahim Al-Haidous, Head of the Youth Department, announced the organization of an archery course for the participants of the summer camp. The course is supervised by Mr. Ali Al-Ghawas Al-Marri, Program and Events Coordinator at the Youth Department.
He pointed out that practicing archery offers both physical and psychological benefits, such as improving concentration, strengthening the muscles of the back and arms, and boosting self-confidence.
He explained that the fundamentals of archery begin with the proper stance — both feet should be placed on either side of the shooting line. He said: “The feet should be shoulder-width apart, parallel, with toes pointing forward. Shoulders should be perpendicular to the shooting line, chest and ribs facing downward, and shoulders relaxed. To nock the arrow, hold it from the bottom, place it on the arrow rest, and ensure the differently colored fletching faces outward. The string is held at the designated grip point, and the grip is formed by placing the hand on the bow handle using the fleshy part of the thumb.”
He added that the target and fingers should be angled 45 degrees from the bow line, maintaining this position consistently for every shot.
Al-Haidous continued: “The ready position involves raising the hands upward, with the bow hand pointing toward the target. Care should be taken not to raise the shoulders, keeping the chest facing downward, and ensuring the shoulders are aligned in a straight vertical line perpendicular to the shooting line. The drawing hand should be aligned with the nose, and the elbow of the bow hand should rotate downward to be parallel with the string. Then, the draw is executed by pulling the string back toward the nose, letting it rest beside the nose at the anchor point, with the drawing arm level with or slightly above the arrow.”
