The organizing committee for Qatar’s Sports Day has revealed the launch of the State Sports Day Award for 2024-2025, aimed at honoring various governmental and private entities that contribute to promoting a culture of sports and physical activity among their participants.
The official announcement of the award was made during a press conference held by the Ministry of Sports and Youth on Monday morning at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall, attended by Abdul Rahman bin Muslim Al-Dosari, Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth and Head of the Sports Day Organizing Committee, Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Sports for All Federation, along with many personalities and various local media.
The committee emphasized that the main goal of the award is to enhance positive competition among various institutions to encourage them to provide a healthy and active work environment, thereby improving public health and promoting a sports spirit within Qatari society.
Abdul Rahman Al-Dosari: The Award Aligns with the Vision of Sports Day
Abdul Rahman bin Muslim Al-Dosari stressed that the award aligns with the vision of the state’s Sports Day, which aims to make sports a sustainable lifestyle and reflects the ongoing efforts to organize sports events throughout the year.
He pointed out that the first edition of Sports Day was held in 2012 and has been celebrated annually since then, matching Qatar’s Vision 2023, which emphasizes the importance of community health. Over the years, Sports Day has become an integral part of the nation’s culture.
The head of the Sports Day organizing committee highlighted the positive impact this annual event has on spreading a culture of sports among the Qatari community, noting that the number of individuals engaging in sports has increased to 28% this year, compared to just 11% in 2011. He confirmed that the number of sports participants in the community is rising significantly, exceeding expected annual growth rates by 6%.
He explained that the established strategy aims for a participation rate of 36% by 2030, reflecting the success of policies and efforts in this area.
Abdullah Al-Dosari: Aiming to Increase Sports Participation in the Community
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Head of Activities and Events at the Sports for All Federation, stated that the federation offers activities for everyone, aimed at increasing the rate of sports participation in the country.
He mentioned that the federation’s calendar includes 750 sporting events, both daily and weekly, featuring races and marathons available for community members to participate in for free throughout the year.
He highlighted that the state has provided sports infrastructure that makes it possible for everyone to practice sports in various climates and optimal conditions.
He encouraged individuals and groups to take advantage of the sports and recreational activities offered by the federation, which contribute to improving health and strengthening social ties among participants from different institutions, ultimately enhancing the mental well-being of sports practitioners.
Conditions for Participation in the Award
Entities wishing to participate in the State Sports Day Award must organize sports events at suitable locations and document them through clear photos and videos, aiming to share them on their social media accounts to increase awareness and encourage community participation. Additionally, they must complete the event registration form available on the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s website, including event details and participant numbers.
Participants are also required to promote their sports events on social media using the hashtags #في_وقت (At the Time) and #الرياضة_حياة (Sports is Life), while tagging the official State Sports Day account.
The award conditions stipulate the need to adhere to security and safety requirements for all sports events, including the provision of medical teams, securing the venue, and ensuring the safety of the equipment used.
Points for the award will be calculated based on four main criteria, including the number of organized events, the number of event days, participant numbers, and the involvement of entities in the Sports for All event calendar.
The award ceremony for the State Sports Day is scheduled to take place alongside the Sports and Youth Excellence Award ceremony in September 2025.
