The Qatar Desert Trails Running Series 2025, organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation with the partnership of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, will be completed with the Al Khor Challenge, scheduled to take place at Purple Island and its surrounding areas. The race will kick off at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday, with strong participation from various segments of the community, including runners who have taken part in the other rounds of the series.
In addition to the Al Khor race, the series included four other rounds held at different times throughout the year: Al Zubarah Challenge, Fuwairit, Sealine, and Al Wakrah. The final stop in Al Khor is expected to complement the achievements of the Qatar Desert Trails Running Series, which covers all geographical regions of the country. The races are divided into four distances: 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km, in addition to a special 800-meter race for children aged 3 to 6.
Abdullah Al Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated that the 2025 Desert Trails Seriesrepresents a continuation of ongoing efforts to further promote sports culture and raise awareness of the importance of physical activity. He noted that the races are held in natural desert locations, offering participants the opportunity to enjoy nature and explore many of Qatar’s landmarks through a unique sporting experience. The series spans several distinctive areas such as Fuwairit, Al Zubarah, Sealine, Al Wakrah, and Al Khor. This year is marked by the inclusion of Al Khor as the fifth challenge in the series, added at the request of residents of Al Khor and Al Dhakira, reflecting the expansion into a new area and the continued use of natural desert environments to encourage sports participation.
Now in its fifth year, the Desert Trails Series continues to show steady growth, with participant numbers increasing from one edition to the next. This progress is supported by fruitful cooperation with Trails Sports Events, which announced a special prize for participants who compete in all five challenges of the desert running series. The races attract strong family participation across all age groups and have evolved beyond being purely running events to become a vibrant platform for community sports. They play an active role in improving fitness levels and endurance by challenging participants across terrains with varying elevations, enhancing muscle resistance and overall physical performance within the community.
The 2025 Desert Trails Series began with the Fuwairit Race in northeastern Qatar, followed by the second challenge in Sealine. The third stop was the Al Zubarah Race, held near the historic Al Zubarah Fort in the northwest of Qatar, while the fourth challenge took place in Al Wakrah. The series will conclude next Saturday with the first edition of the Al Khor Challenge.
