As part of the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s strategy and the directives of the Youth Affairs Department to empower youth in various fields, and on the occasion of World Cleanup Day held annually on September 16, the Al-Jumailiya Youth Center, in cooperation with Al Shahaniya Municipality, organized a comprehensive program of practical environmental and awareness activities that embodied voluntary work and community partnership to protect the environment and preserve the beauty of Qatar’s beaches.

The first event took place on Saturday morning with a large-scale cleanup campaign at Zekrit Beach in the western region of the country. Participants included center members and several employees from Al Shahaniya Municipality, who removed large amounts of waste and litter, demonstrating the youth’s dedication to environmental service and promoting a culture of responsibility towards natural facilities.

The second event was an awareness lecture titled “Judicial Oversight in the Field of Public Cleanliness,” presented by Mr. Ali Matar Al-Dosari, the western region official of Al Shahaniya Municipality. The lecture covered the legal framework ensuring the cleanliness of public places, inspection and monitoring mechanisms, and the importance of individuals adhering to environmental laws. The lecture was met with active engagement from the center’s members, who raised many questions and discussions about the citizen’s role in supporting environmental monitoring efforts.

The final event was another cleanup campaign at Um Al Maa Beach on the northern coast of Qatar, which saw strong participation from youth members of the center and representatives from the Ministry of Municipality. The event was held amid enthusiastic atmosphere that reflected the values of teamwork and a spirit of giving.

Organizers from both Al Shahaniya Municipality and Al-Jumailiya Youth Center praised the enthusiasm demonstrated by the youth, considering that such participation reflects the new generation’s awareness of the importance of protecting marine and terrestrial environments, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030 which emphasizes environmental sustainability as a fundamental pillar of development.

Officials from Al Shahaniya Municipality and Al-Jumailiya Youth Center also emphasized that celebrating World Cleanup Day should not be limited to annual occasions but should become a daily practice for everyone to ensure a healthy and clean environment for future generations.

The events received a positive response from participants and followers, many of whom believe that such initiatives strengthen cooperation between government institutions and the local community and highlight the role of youth as a key partner in implementing national initiatives.
