In a competitive and exciting sporting atmosphere, Al Jemailiya Youth Center organized the Sixth Al Jemailiya Chess Championship on 23 July 2026 at its headquarters in Al Jemailiya City, with broad participation from mind sports enthusiasts. The tournament attracted 80 male and female competitors of various nationalities, reflecting the remarkable cultural diversity witnessed at such championships.

The championship forms part of the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s strategy to empower young people and activate sports and intellectual activities across youth centers and committees. It also comes in implementation of the directives of the Department of Youth Centers and Committees, which attaches particular importance to nurturing talent and developing the intellectual and sporting skills of young people through the activities and events organized by its affiliated youth centers and committees.

The championship was organized in cooperation with the Qatar Chess Association. The matches were supervised and officiated by a specialized refereeing team led by Mr. Hamid Al Qadi, alongside supervisor Ashraf Fathy, who ensured that the competition was conducted professionally and transparently in accordance with the approved international regulations.

The championship was attended by Mr. Hamad Al Tamimi, representing the Qatar Chess Association, who presented the Association’s shield to Al Jemailiya Youth Center in recognition of its efforts in organizing this distinguished event. He also presented the certificates and championship trophy to the winners, alongside Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Shehwani, Financial Director of the Center. Mr. Johan Gribsi claimed first place and the championship trophy, Mr. Ryan Mendoza finished second, and Mr. Loti Delkoro secured third place. Isa Sultan Al Maadheed received the award for Best Qatari Player, while Ahmed Al Sharif was named Best Player from Al Jemailiya Youth Center.

At the conclusion of the championship, Mr. Khalifa Mohsen Al Shehwani, Chairman of the Center, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Qatar Chess Association for its continuous support of the Center’s chess activities and events. He also thanked all participants, referees led by Mr. Hamid Al Qadi, and the organizers from both the Qatar Chess Association and Al Jemailiya Youth Center, affirming the Center’s commitment to continuing to organize such events, which contribute to promoting the culture of chess and strengthening communication among different nationalities under one sporting umbrella.
