Under the representation of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Youth Committee at Al Arabi Sports Club organized an awareness workshop titled “Beware of Obesity” as part of its commitment to offering a comprehensive summer program that goes beyond the sporting aspect. The workshop was held in cooperation with the Primary Health Care Corporation and delivered by Dr. Wafaa Mohammed, adding valuable content to this year’s 2025 summer camp program at the club.
In an engaging and simplified scientific approach, Dr. Wafaa explained the root causes behind the growing prevalence of obesity, noting that it results from a combination of poor eating habits, excessive reliance on fast food, and physical inactivity—one of the hallmarks of the digital age. She also highlighted the psychological and social effects of obesity. The lecture focused on key points aimed at raising health awareness among participants, including defining obesity, identifying its main causes—such as unhealthy food choices, lack of physical activity, and genetic and psychological factors like low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression—making it a complex challenge that requires full awareness and a practical, realistic plan toward a healthier life.
The workshop also addressed the health risks associated with obesity, such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, presenting them in a simple and impactful way. Dr. Wafaa provided practical tips for a healthy lifestyle, including the importance of eating breakfast, choosing foods rich in protein and fiber, and maintaining regular exercise.
This awareness initiative represents an important step in addressing one of today’s major health challenges—obesity and its negative impact on public health—while responding to the modern health concerns faced by youth.
The workshop concluded with active engagement from participants, who asked numerous questions reflecting their interest in learning more about how to maintain their health.
