The champions of the Summer Chess Championship for Sport for All, organized by the Qatar Sport for All Federation under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Qatar Chess Federation, were crowned after a thrilling competition. The tournament, held at the Chess Federation’s Training Center, brought together 66 male and female players under the age of 18, representing various nationalities, including 16 Qatari participants.

The championship is part of the Sport for All Summer Program 2025, which offers a diverse range of activities and events in sports halls, clubs, youth centers, schools, and public parks, with the participation of ministries, institutions, and various other entities. The program runs until August 7.

The final results of the two-day competition saw Sajan Abel claim first place, followed by Joicy Johan in second place, and Calvelo Karim in third. After the matches concluded, Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sport for All Federation, awarded the top three winners with medals and cash prizes. Finalists who reached the last stage of the tournament also received valuable prizes as an encouragement and motivation to participate in future championships, helping expand the base of community sports engagement.

Al-Dosari noted that the tournament received strong participation from various age groups, particularly youth, reflecting the growing popularity of chess as a mental sport that enhances focus and thinking skills. He added that the presence of families added a special atmosphere, creating an interactive environment that confirms chess as one of the standout community sports activities.

He further emphasized the Federation’s commitment to providing a summer calendar filled with diverse activities and events that meet the aspirations of different segments of society, offering them opportunities to participate and engage. “Variety is the key to success in reaching everyone and achieving the goals of community sports,” he said, explaining that this is done through the Federation’s general calendar of sports and entertainment events, as well as summer activities. He affirmed the ongoing effort to offer chess players and enthusiasts greater opportunities through continuous cooperation with the Qatar Chess Federation in organizing professionally run and technically strong tournaments that contribute to promoting the game and expanding its player base within the Qatari community.
