His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Minister of Sports and Youth, stated that the Qatar National Sports Policy, prepared by the Ministry of Sports and Youth in partnership with stakeholders in the sports sector and in coordination with the National Planning Council, serves as a comprehensive national framework aimed at unifying and coordinating efforts to develop the sports sector in the State of Qatar. The policy aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy (2024–2030).
His Excellency affirmed that the Qatar National Sports Policy reflects the State’s recognition of the vital role of sport in enhancing quality of life, health, community development, national identity, and global excellence.

Key Objectives

The Council of Ministers has approved the Qatar National Sports Policy, which aims to elevate sport to achieve leadership and excellence at both regional and global levels. Its objectives include expanding participation and engagement in physical activity and community sport, strengthening enabling factors for sports performance development and institutional excellence, and raising the overall standard of sport to achieve excellence.

Main Pillars

The policy is built around ten main pillars: sports participation, physical development, and community sport; governance and coordination among relevant sports entities; promotion of competitive and elite sports; resources and financing in sport; planning and operation of sports facilities and venues; hosting and organizing sports championships and events; development and innovation in sport and sports medicine; national and international partnerships and cooperation in sport; the contribution of sport to sustainable community development; and sports media and communication.
