The Olympic Cycling Track witnessed a remarkable community sports event, as the Qatar Sports for All Federation, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth and in cooperation with Qatar Cyclists Center and Qatar Triathlon Center, organized a cycling race on the Olympic track on the evening of last Tuesday.
The race was held in celebration of World Bicycle Day, which is observed annually on June 3, and saw wide participation from men, women, children, and the elderly. The event began at 6:30 PM from Qatar University, with the presence of 350 male and female participants of various age groups. Around 300 men took part in the race, along with 50 women, in a community sporting event marked by energy and enthusiasm, with the involvement of both Qatari and resident families. Together, they formed a vibrant sports scene that reflected the growing community awareness of the importance of physical activity and adopting a healthy, active lifestyle.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, praised the large turnout from different age groups—especially the elderly, children, and women—highlighting that this diversity gave the event a rich community and humanitarian dimension, adding a unique character through widespread interaction with sports events.
Al-Dosari stated that this race is one of the flagship activities on the Sports for All calendar, which includes over 750 events, championships, and activities aimed at reaching broader segments of society and encouraging them to engage in sports through diverse and attractive methods. This effort aligns with Qatar’s vision of promoting public health and spreading a culture of sports among individuals, families, and society at large.
The Executive Director described the atmosphere surrounding the event as exceptional, noting that the enthusiasm shown by participants as they enjoyed the race turned the event into a distinctive sporting and community experience. He added that the Federation will continue organizing a variety of innovative and inclusive community events aimed at making sports an integral part of individuals’ and families’ daily lives, while ensuring that the content delivered is both physically beneficial and socially impactful—encouraging everyone to adopt an active lifestyle and take part in the community sports agenda.
