The 18th edition of the Qatar Robotics & AI Competition kicked off yesterday. The event is organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, represented by the Qatar Scientific Club, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and supported by the Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (“Daam”).
The competition is being held at Lusail Multipurpose Hall, with the participation of 2,500 male and female students over two days. The event features wide engagement from school and university students, youth center members, and technology enthusiasts from across the country.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eng. Yasser bin Abdullah Al Jamal, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, along with several department directors and ministry officials.
The competition reflects the Qatar Scientific Club’s commitment to promoting a culture of scientific and technological innovation among youth and opening new horizons for creativity in robotics, programming, and artificial intelligence. It aims to strengthen participants’ competitive capabilities and keep pace with the rapid global developments associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Fawaz Al Musifri, Director of the Youth Centers and Organizations Department at the Ministry of Sports and Youth, stated in remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the Ministry is keen to support such annual championships due to their strategic importance and alignment with the pillars of Qatar’s National Youth Policy, particularly in the areas of innovation and learning. He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Qatar Scientific Club for their outstanding organization of the event.
He added that this year’s edition introduced several updates, including new activities being launched for the first time—such as cybersecurity challenges—alongside the development of competitions designed for school students, as well as updates to rules and games. He noted that winners of this edition will be nominated to represent the State of Qatar in future Arab and international competitions.
