The Qatar Sports for All Federation, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has announced that preparations are underway for the upcoming edition of the Al Wakrah Running Challenge 2025, which is scheduled to take place on October 25 in the Al Wakrah area. The event promises participants a unique sporting experience that blends physical challenge with the beauty of nature.
This distinctive sporting challenge aims to foster a spirit of competition and participation, boosted by the scenic charm of the Al Wakrah racecourse. The race will feature multiple stages in an atmosphere full of excitement, bringing together families and sports enthusiasts from all nationalities to enjoy a fun-filled athletic event and create lasting memories.
The Al Wakrah Challenge is part of the “Drob Qatar” series, which includes five desert races held across various regions of the country. The challenge is open to men, women, and all age groups — from children and youth to adults, starting from age 3 and up. Participants can choose from the following distances: 3 km, 5 km, and 10 km, with an 800-meter race dedicated to children aged 3 to 8 years.
The race, organized in collaboration with Trails Sports Events Company, will follow a single out-and-back trail route, differing only in the total distance covered by each participant. The route consists of easy dirt trails and includes three water stations, located at the start and finish points, as well as at 1.5 km and 2.5 km marks.
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director of the Qatar Sports for All Federation, stated that preparations are ongoing for a special edition of the Al Wakrah Challenge, which will be the first night race held in Al Wakrah as part of the 2025 desert running series. The full series includes five challenges: Al Zubarah Challenge, Fuwairit Challenge, Sealine Challenge, Al Wakrah Challenge, and the newly introduced Al Khor Challenge — making it a comprehensive series that spans all regions of the country, and is part of the official national race calendar.
He added that registration is open to all age groups via the Qatar Sports for All app, with a special 800-meter race for children aged 3 to 6 years, designed to create an environment that encourages young children to engage in physical activity and prepares them for future participation in races.
The Executive Director emphasized that the addition of new races to the ambitious and inclusive sports events calendar, which features over 750 sporting and entertainment events this year, reflects the Federation’s commitment to distributing races and marathons across all parts of the country. He further noted that the 2025 “Drob” Desert Running Series builds on the success of last year’s four events, which helped raise awareness of the importance of physical activity by hosting races in natural desert environments, offering participants the chance to enjoy the outdoors and discover new landmarks in Qatar, contributing to a truly unique and enriching experience.
