The State of Qatar has designated the second Tuesday of February each year as the official National Sports Day, according to Amiri Decision No. (80) of 2011, in recognition of the importance of sports in building individuals and developing society. The goal of National Sports Day is to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity and encourage all members of society to engage in regular sports, making it an integrated lifestyle.
National Sports Day serves as an opportunity to promote the concept of “sports for all” and achieve a comprehensive balance between body and mind. It also reflects the country’s commitment to raising awareness of the role of sports in enhancing physical health.
Since its inception in 2012, National Sports Day has been a great success, with various ministries, government institutions, and the private sector collaborating to organize diverse sporting events. This highlights the collective commitment to promoting sports awareness and its positive impact on individuals’ and communities’ lives.
This year’s National Sports Day features a variety of sports events, including football, basketball, cycling, swimming, and many activities suitable for all age groups. Additionally, sports facilities and public parks are open to host events that encourage community participation.
The excellent infrastructure in Qatar, including pedestrian and cycling paths and sports facilities, contributes to motivating physical activity. The National Sports Day Committee works to set standards and conditions for events to ensure a healthy and safe environment for participants.
These events aim to raise awareness among citizens and residents about the importance of replacing an unhealthy lifestyle with a more active one, to maintain health and reduce health risks.
