Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) was established in the early 1960s and officially registered in 1975.
The Club organizes horse racing events at Al Rayyan Racecourse on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at Al Uqda Racecourse on Saturdays, throughout the season, which starts in late October and extends until May. The previous racing season (2022/2021) included 70 races on both racecourses. The Club’s facilities include stables for receiving and housing horses, a veterinary clinic, a swimming pool for horses, a horseshoeing section, and a Club for social and recreational activities. Around 700 horses are trained daily at Al Rayyan Racecourse. Starting from 2021, the Club also operates Al Uqda Equestrian Complex, where horses are accommodated and trained, and races are held.
QREC is a member of various international organizations, including the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO) since 1990, the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) since 1992, the European Conference of Arab Horse Organizations (ECAHO) since 1994, the Asian Racing Federation since 2001, and the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) since 1992.
The Club organizes several championships for purebred Arabian horses, most notably the Qatar International Arabian Horse Championship, which has been elevated by ECAHO to the highest global level, making it a title championship (Title).
