The Camel Racing Organizing Committee was established initially as the Temporary Committee for Supervising Camel Races under the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth Welfare decision No. (29) of 1408 AH (corresponding to 28/11/1987). Later, by virtue of Decree No. (46) of 2003 regarding Sports Bodies in force at the time, the committee’s responsibilities were directly assigned to the Prime Minister according to the provisions of Law No. (5) of 1984 concerning Clubs when it came into effect and applied to sports Clubs.
Under Decree No. (19) of 2007 concerning certain sports bodies, the committee’s name was amended to its current name, and its supervision was transferred to the Private Advisor to His Highness the Amir.
With the issuance of Decree No. (41) of 2014, Decree No. (19) of 2007 concerning certain sports bodies was canceled, and the committee’s supervision was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Sports based on Law No. (1) of 2016 on the organization of sports Clubs. The committee’s internal regulations were approved in accordance with the relevant provisions and rules. The current Chairman of the committee is Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Faisal Al Thani, and he is represented by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Kuwari.
Committee Objectives:
The committee aims to promote and disseminate camel racing, provide necessary means and services for all activities, competitions, and events related to this sport, contributing to its development. It encourages all segments of the Qatari society to engage in this sport as authentic activities related to Qatari culture and identity, benefiting the Qatari society as a whole.
The committee works to achieve the aforementioned objectives and carries out its activities in a way that serves the sports community in cooperation with bodies concerned with sports and social affairs related to sports activities, in accordance with the laws, regulations, and rules applicable to the committee.
The committee’s management consists of a President and a Vice President who oversee all the committee’s affairs to ensure the achievement of its established objectives and the management of its operations within the boundaries of the law, internal regulations, and related regulations.
