Al Rayyan Sports Club was officially established in 1967 after approval from the Supreme Sports Committee to include it among Qatari Clubs under serial (15). It resulted from the merger of the old Al Rayyan team with the new Al Rayyan Eagles team, forming the “Al Rayyan Youth Sports Club.” The establishment of this Club was a dream cherished by many youth from the Al Rayyan region due to their remarkable sporting skills and potential. Their aspiration to participate in official championships, competing against renowned Clubs at that time, was an ambitious hope. The first board of directors for Al Rayyan Youth Sports Club was formed in 1967, marking the beginning of its sports journey. The Club played a significant role in establishing genuine sporting principles, achieving numerous successes, and winning multiple championships. Al Rayyan dominated handball and basketball in all categories and also competed in volleyball, athletics, and table tennis, in addition to other cultural and artistic activities.
From its early years, the Club emphasized the importance of cultural activities, believing in their profound impact on individuals and communities. Consequently, the Club established a library with numerous books and references covering various cultural fields. It also ensured to supply the library with local and international periodicals to foster the development of minds alongside physical well-being.
The Club issued “Sout Al Rayyan” magazine, which documented events and accomplishments through pictures and statistics, received a warm welcome from the sports community. The Club also organized continuous seminars, lectures, and meetings to provide a democratic and harmonious environment for young people to exchange ideas and opinions. Additionally, Al Rayyan Sports Club played an active social role, hosting annual events for both parents and children within the Club’s premises. The Club was keen to consolidate the good relationship between its youth and the youth of other Clubs at home and abroad.
Furthermore, the Club’s internal camps and trips were among the important initiatives aimed at fostering self-reliance among its members. It also opened its doors to local institutions in the Al Rayyan region for hosting seminars and meetings in the Club’s hall.
Club Achievements:
One of the most significant achievements of the Club was receiving the General Excellence Shield for Qatari Clubs (in both sports and culture) for (14) seasons, starting from the (1988/1989) sports season until the (2002/2003) season.
The Club excelled in various sports, locally, regionally, and Arab-wide, and achieved cultural and youth accomplishments at the Club and youth centers’ levels. The Club’s journey continues, taking steady steps towards achieving numerous titles and accomplishments that match the prestigious status, reputation, and heritage of Al Rayyan Sports Club. Virtually, every sports season adds to the Club’s trophy cabinet, filled with many cups won annually.
