Al Khor Sports Club was founded in 1961 when the residents of Al Khor region working in the oil sector realized the importance of having a Club that provides them with suitable facilities to invest their talents. This realization came as a result of active participation in recreational activities practiced within Qatar Petroleum Company, and to increase awareness of the importance of having a sports Club, social gatherings were formed among the residents of the region. The period from 1957 to 1959 witnessed actual planning and execution, leading to the successful establishment of their youth institution under the name of (Al Taawon) Sports Club. However, the Club temporarily suspended its activities afterwards. In 1961, the Club resumed its activities by a different group of Al Khor residents and began its activities primarily centered around football along with limited recreational and social activities, given the modest resources available at that time. The Club’s logo was composed of yellow and white colors. During that period, there were two other Clubs in the Al Khor region, Al Jil and Al Aswad Clubs in Al Thakhira city, these Clubs used to carry out their activities separately. Since the region could not accommodate three Clubs, coordination and agreement were made to merge efforts, and Al Aswad Sports Club joined Al Taawon Sports Club on 05/04/1962, followed by Al Jil Sports Club on 07/02/1964. Recognizing in the importance of participating in elevating the level of sports, the Club applied for membership in the Qatar Sports Federation, which was officially registered and publicized by Decision No. (13) on 10/06/1964. Since that date, Al Taawon Club has been participating with other local Clubs in official activities organized by sports, cultural, and social federations. On 30 June 2002, the decision of the President of the Qatari Olympic Committee No. 26 was issued, changing the name of Al Taawon Sports Club to Al Khor Sports Club, based on the resolution of the Club’s general assembly.
