The Club was founded in 1950 under the name “Al-Najah Club” and is considered one of the oldest and most prestigious sports Clubs in Qatar, known as the “Dean of Qatari Clubs.” In 1972, the Youth Welfare Administration issued a decision to merge Clubs, and Al-Najah Club and Al-Ahli Sports Club decided to merge, adopting the logo of Al-Najah Club, which is green and white, under the name of “Al-Ahli Sports Club” forming the first board of directors consisting of eight members.
In the season 1984/1985, the Club received its new headquarters, becoming the first facility to be received by a Club, in recognition of its heritage and strong fan base. Al-Ahli Sports Club has achieved four titles of the Emir Cup in the seasons 1973, 1981, 1987, and 1992. It was the first team to win this prestigious championship in the 1972/1973 season. Recently, the Club has undergone maintenance, and in the 2015/2016 season, it received its modern facilities.
